Technical support

You want to upgrade the satellite system on your own

  •  Receiver systems for two satellite positions are commonly called “monoblock LNB” and can be recognized by the two “eyes”. They receive the signals of two adjacent satellites using one satellite dish only. Inside the casing, two LNBs and a connection switch are installed.
  • To be able to watch HOPE Channel in addition to the commercial TV channels of the satellite position ASTRA (19 ° East), Eutelsat-Hotbird (13 ° East) must be set as 2nd position.
  • The necessary monoblock LNBs incorporating a six degree differential can be acquired at a specialized dealer.
  • When upgrading, pay attention to the fastening neck of the LNB which is mounted in the holding arm. The new LNBs neck must have the exact same diameter as the old one. Common are diameters of 40 mm. When using a different model with a diverging diameter, acquire a compatible LNB. In some cases, a new satellite dish is required.
  • When buying a new satellite dish, the preferred size is 60 – 80 cm with a stable holding arm for the somewhat heavier monoblock LNB. Please consult the specialist dealer for advice.
  • Similar to single LNBs, monoblock LNBs are available with one, two, or four connections. Every subscriber needs a separate cable connection to the LNB and may receive every available channel of both satellites independently.
  • As an alternative to a monoblock LNB, two single LNBs may be mounted adjacently on a bar and connected via a switch. This design, however, requires more technical proficiency.
  • Mounting instruction: Looking straight onto the dish, clamp the right “eye” of the monoblock LNB. The other “eye” remains cantilever to the left of the clamped connection.
  • Using the clamped (right) LNB, position the dish for a channel of the Eutelsat-Hotbird satellite (13 ° East) first. Both the horizontal and the vertical axis must be positioned exactly for maximum signal quality. (elevation and azimuth angles)
  • The cantilever left LNB will then be able to receive the channels of the ASTRA satellite (19 ° East) without further adjustment.
  • If the installation fails, the DiSeqC-definition* of the receiver and the LNB may not match. Please consult a specialist in this case. It is recommendable to utilize a receiver and a LNB from the same manufacturer.
  • Receiver: A digital satellite receiver following the DVB standard is required. It needs to support the DiSeqC Protocol* 1.0 or higher. To receive HOPE channel, no decoding equipment is necessary.
  • Commercial receivers are usually prefigured for receiving both ASTRA and Eutelsat-Hotbird satellite channels and support DiSEqC. In some cases, the receiver data of HOPE Channel needs to be supplemented.

*) DiSEqC is an information protocol working between satellite receivers and accessories like LNBs, switches and turning devices.
